Grade 4 Teacher
Ëdlánët’ë/Tansi/Hello
Ranelle hushyë sį́, Dënësułiné hesli Nintelaztuë otsi.
(Hi, my name is Ranelle and I am Dënësułinë from La Loche, SK.)
I was raised in Saskatoon,sk until I was fourteen. Then I returned to my home roots in La Loche in 2008, and I am a proud member of the Clearwater River Dene Nation. Sports are an important part of my life and play a role within my family. I have since then grown professionally with the La Loche Friendship Centre with different roles and have previous experience as an educational assistant in multiple grades. To my name, I proudly hold a Bachelor of Education Degree from University of Regina/First Nations University with a specialization in Indigenous Education. I am now able to help others learn to read, write and speak in my first language, Dene. I am also the definition of what language revitalization is. I am a first generation survivor of a sixties scoop, residential school and second generation of a sanitarium survivor. Identity, self care and healing are a huge part of my life and it has led me to the right path personally and professionally.
I am passionate about being connected with our cultural practices and I will continue to teach not only my daughter, but others and future generations as well through the land-based lens with traditional teachings. I am also certified to train in Cultural Humility to bring awareness of Indigenous knowledge and Canadian History. I am glad to be back at Elsie Fabian School with the students and staff, and I look forward to a great year!
