Ms. Erin Humphrey
Grade 4 Teacher
Tân’si! Erin Humphrey n’tisiyîhkâson. Nistowâyâhk ohci nîya. Hi, my name is Erin Humphrey and I’m born and raised in Fort McMurray, Alberta. I have always wanted to be a teacher ever since I was a little girl. I am super excited to be working in Fort McKay this year and especially excited to be integrating some Indigenous culture into the Program of Studies. I have been learning Cree for over a year now. I know basic phrases, and can write and read syllabics as well. I will bring that knowledge to the classroom this year and I’m hoping to learn more Cree and Dene languages from Community Members.
I have been a teacher for 6 years. I taught for 5 years in Fort McMurray for the Fort McMurray Catholic School Division and I taught for one year in Vietnam. I have taught Grades 4, 5, 6, and 7. In Vietnam, I taught Grades 6 and 7 Math and Science. My specialty is Mathematics. I enjoy art and the outdoors. I like to make more fun and engaging activities that incorporate different materials and technologies. I played sports growing up (high school and university volleyball) and I have coached volleyball in the past. I am a huge advocate for mental health. We will learn lots of ways to take a break when feeling overwhelmed this year and feed into our emotional wellbeing.
My teaching philosophy is to have fun. I believe hands-on lessons are how kids learn best. My classroom is a safe and caring environment that allows kids the chance to make mistakes without judgment from peers or adults. Together, we will work to foster positive relationships with friends, teachers, and family. I will personally do my best to continue to support your child and you throughout the year on your children’s education journey!
