Grade 2 Teacher

Hello, Tansi, Boozhoo,

My name is Tiersa Kejick. I am Anishinaabe from Lac Seul First Nation. I grew up in Brandon, Manitoba with my immediate family and have strong roots in both Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario, specifically in Treaty 3 Territory also known as the Lake of the Woods region.

I come from a family of educators—I'm a second-generation teacher. Growing up, I was always surrounded by the school environment. My father is a teacher, and my mother worked in schools as a liaison and later served as a school trustee.

After high school, I moved to Alberta to continue my education while playing college volleyball. Sports have always played a big role in my life, and through them, I've formed many lasting friendships. Being part of teams and learning through sport has taught me so much. I carry many of those lessons into my teaching philosophy—especially the value of creating a team-like environment that is welcoming and inclusive. I believe every student brings unique strengths, and when we come together as a supportive team, great success is possible. We celebrate our achievements together and encourage one another to do our best.

I earned my Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta, majoring in Elementary Education. Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to work with Edmonton Public Schools, Northland School Division, and currently with Fort McKay First Nation at Elsie Fabian School.

Teaching is something I’m deeply passionate about. I love being in the classroom and watching students grow, learn, and discover their potential.

I am also a proud mother to my son and daughter, who inspire me every day and remind me of the importance of nurturing young minds with patience, compassion, and encouragement.

When I’m not in the classroom, I enjoy staying active through sports and spending time fishing with my family.
